Browser Breakdown - Update 1/21/05

From the last 100 unique visitors, in just a few weeks there has been a dramatic change in the browser numbers:

65% MSIE
26% Firefox (Mozilla & Netscape 3% each)
8% Safari
1% Opera

and the OS wars continue... I have to discount the Mac numbers (for now) as I think I get more hits from Mac users due to several older posts about Mac-related topics. It'll be interesting to see if it's a sustained upward trend or just an anomaly.

62% Win XP
13% Win 98
10% Mac OS X
9% Win 2000
2% Mac OS (older than X)
2% Linux
2% Other (?)

I will post updates roughly once a month, see more recent posts for updates.

Apple & the Mini Mac : "Catch the Man"

I seriously wonder if the codename for the Mac mini was Headhunter… because if you know the lyrics, it's about hunting for humans. And it's no secret that Apple would like to lure more people into buying a Mac.

Lock the target …The Elusive "Switcher"
Bait the line … iPod
Spread the net … iTunes for Windows
Catch the man! … Mac mini

and sure, you think I'm crazy but the lyrics can be found here. It's brilliant. I can stop recommending inferior Dell boxes to my "price sensitive" friends.

In case you're looking for a keyboard and mouse to go with that Mac mini, I recommend the following:

Apple USB Keyboard
Kensington Mouse in a Box

Moderate Republicans and Conservative Democrats?

Here is something that I don't quite understand. How does one define their political association? And once you do so, what do you do when your chosen party morphes into something that you no longer believe in?

Democrats are quite used to their party becoming more moderate than the liberal grassroots activist. Now the Republicans are seeing their party veer sharply to the right (and right off a cliff, if you ask me). So, where does the self-defined moderate Republican pledge his allegiance? And when can a conservative Southern Democrat just admit that he/she is a Republican?

And if this Republican fiscal insanity continues, where will the fiscal conservatives of the world turn? It seems that the Democrats are becoming the budget hawks. The Emperor's foreign wars are adding up and his domestic tax cuts make less sense each passing day.

Browser Breakdown

Fascinating results courtesy of Statcounter.com. I was tired of the nearly useless information that Nedstat.com provided and switched the tracking of my blog to StatCounter - highly recommended.

It seems that visitors to this site are switching to non-IE browsers in a big way. 22% of y'all have abandoned IE in favor of an open-source derived browser.

76% IE
13% Firefox
3% Safari
3% Netscape
3% Mozilla

In the OS front, we have the usual line-up... somewhat surprising is the stronger than expected Mac showing. I'm happy to see that the final days of DOS-based Windows are here... but somehow, 11% of you are still using these aging systems.

70% WinXP
8% Mac
8% Win2K
6% Win98
5% WinME
3% Linux

At least according to these numbers, Linux on the desktop is for real coming in at 3%. I'm looking forward to the Google Zeitgeist as I think they're the best gauge of OS and browser usage.

Can We Fast Forward to 7AM?

I'm on the night shift covering the ICU. And at times like right now, I so wish that I had a remote where I could hit fast-forward and arrive in manic fashion to 7am. I would so like to be able to sleep right now but the rapid bursts of pager activity forbid such pleasures. I can't complain as being on research for the past 2 months had led to increasing levels of boredom. That has now resolved and I so desperately wish it could be 7am now.
