cultured diamonds / die de beers, die!

the 9/2003 Wired features a piece on cultured diamonds. by now, we should all know that diamonds are NOT rare and the price is kept high by the de beers cartel that tightly regulates supply in order to keep diamond prices artificially high. well, Gemesis hopes to change all of this by creating synthetic or "cultured" diamonds. it's interesting reading and i always enjoy rooting for the underdog. but i can't say that the rock isn't pretty... it is very pretty.
