there is no always forever... just this

i have to reconsider my opinion of the cure's Bloodflowers. i recently received the Trilogy DVD as a gift and it's fabulous. not only had it been several years since i last listened to Pornography, i had always neglected to give Bloodflowers a good listen. i was very skeptical when i heard that Bloodflowers was the third part of this trilogy... but after listening to the albums, i'm willing to consider it. i still feel that Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography are the real trilogy of albums. i've also always felt that these three albums defined the cure's early career whereas Kiss me, Disintegration and Wish define the latter half of the cure's career.

it's good... go buy it. and then buy Audio Hijack (for Mac OS X, only)... rip the audio and burn it to CD and turn out the lights and enjoy it anywhere. or if you have a nice system with 5.1 surround, just turn off the TV and listen to it in all of it's glory. personally, i don't think 5.1 does justice to live music. after all, the band is always in front of you...

exit neema the resident, enter neema the fellow

the past 48 hours has been momentous. yesterday, june 30, 2003, marked my last day of residency in internal medicine. today, july 1, 2003 was my first day as a fellow in pulmonary and critical care medicine. i spent today learning the ropes at USC university hospital. it wasn't quite as stressful as i had feared and, yeah, it went over pretty well.

the funny thing is that after 4 years (well, 6 if you include third and fourth years of medical school) of essentially not liking what i was doing, i really enjoyed today despite the fact that it was all new, stressful and yet exhilirating. i like the ICU setting and i like taking care of critically ill patients. i guess it is about finding a niche that you like and i think i may have found it.
